Wednesday, March 2, 2016

Compete 360 founder Garry Maddox presents awards to the design teams.

Our high school design teams gathered at Citizens Bank Park on Monday to celebrate and be recognized for their design work, and to learn from one another.  Many thanks to our judges--Doug Carney of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Jon Coddington of Drexel University, Rebecca Johnson of AIA Philadelphia, and Noah Tolson of Array Architects, for their time and their thoughtful consideration of the students' work.  We commend all of the teams on their creativity and hard work over the past four and a half Thomas Edison famously said, "Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration."

At the end of the day, the following teams were awarded trophies and grants:

1st place ($2,500) - Kensington Urban Business High School's Smarticle Particles (school news & communication project)
2nd place ($2,000) - Strawberry Mansion High School's Ambitious Scholars (school lunch project)
3rd place ($1,500) - Mastbaum AVT High School's Panthers (school store project)
Designer's Choice Award* - Mastbaum AVT High School's Panthers (school store project)

Finally, we'd like to give a big shout out to all of the teachers who took the time and made the effort to participate in DT Philly this year!

*Awarded by the students themselves, to a team they feel demonstrated empathy and creativity in designing a feasible and desirable solution to their problem.
